5 Things I Did To Be More Productive.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve struggled to get my shit together. Time management, organization, work, getting the kids to all their activities — and on top of that, meal prepping and getting to the gym. How does one do it all?!
I’m here to tell you it’s possible. With a little time management and a family calendar, anything is possible.
1. Use a Calendar That Actually Works for You
First things first — Google Calendar has saved my life.
There are tons of calendar options out there, so find one that works for you. I like Google Calendar because most of what I do for my businesses is on Google, and I love how it visually blocks out my time each day. I can also color code everything so I know, at a glance, whether it’s for me, the kids, or work.
Now here’s the trick, ladies and gents — ready for it?!
What’s in the calendar has to actually happen! Stick to the plan, not your mood.
When we start pushing things off, that’s when we lose momentum and productivity. We don’t just want to be busy; we want to be productive. So make sure what goes in your calendar not only gets done but produces results.
2. Go to Sleep Early, Wake Up Early
For years, I told myself I “couldn’t” make it to the gym because I was too “busy.”
Those quotes are there because it was a lie. We make time for what we feel is important.
So I started waking up at 4:45 AM to get to the gym and be back before my wife has to go to work at our café at 6:30 AM. This allows me to get to the gym 5–6 days a week and gives me the energy to start my mornings strong.
When I get home, I make coffee, give myself 15 minutes to reset, then cook a fresh breakfast for myself and the kids. I pack my son’s lunch if needed, and we’re ready for the day.
3. Prepare the Night Before
Before I go to sleep, I go over my schedule for the next day to make sure I’m prepared.
Doing this allows me to sleep better and feel more in control of my mornings. It’s also a great time to journal or talk with your partner about your day. My wife and I like to share what we’re grateful for or review our calendars so we’re on the same page.
4. Find Someone to Hold You Accountable
This one changed everything for me.
For accountability, I hired a business coach. I paid him to help me become a better version of myself — one I didn’t even know was possible at the time.
My coach’s name was Fil. He’s since become my business partner and continues to guide me not just as a coach but as a friend. He pushes me beyond the limits I set for myself and reminds me that real growth happens outside my comfort zone.
The reason I invested in a coach was to allow my wife to be my partner, not my coach. Finding someone who’s already doing what you want to do is one of the most effective decisions you can make.
5. Surround Yourself with the Right People
This one might be the most important of all.
Surround yourself with people who are smarter and more successful than you. Make sure your friends have a growth mindset. You don’t want to spend your time with people who drain your energy, waste their potential, or distract you from your goals.
If you want to elevate yourself, you’ll have to leave some people behind — and that’s okay.
One of my favorite quotes is, “All it takes is one rotten apple.” It only takes one person to poison the well. That goes for friends, employees, or any group.
Choose your circle wisely — it can and will determine your future.
